Vladimir Seminozhenko, Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine met with parliamentarians and public figures of the Swiss Confederation


Vladimir Seminozhenko, Vice Prime Minister met with representatives of the Swiss Parliament, the Green Cross Switzerland and Green Cross Ukraine at the Cabinet of Ukraine on April 27, 2010.

Today Vladimir Seminozhenko, Vice Prime Minister met with representatives of the Swiss Parliament and the leadership of Green Cross Switzerland, charitable organization. Vice Prime Minister noted that the meeting took place during the 24th anniversary of the accident at Chernobyl NPP and thanked the Swiss side for its assistance in liquidation of the consequences. According to him, we deeply appreciate Green Cross Switzerland, Verein Help-Point Sumy, Support to Western Ukraine, Osterfreat and other charitable organizations in Switzerland, which carry out different humanitarian projects in Ukraine; in particular, they invite Ukrainian children in Switzerland to rest and be treated there, equip Ukrainian hospitals with medical facilities, introduce new approaches to rehabilitation of children living in environmentally fragile areas, disseminate Environmental Education Programs in Ukraine.



Vladimir Seminozhenko said: "We deeply appreciate any help, because in general Ukraine was left alone with the problem of Chernobyl.

Vice Prime Minister noted that in Switzerland, ecological thinking is the fact of public opinion and mandatory component of the state ideology. He assured that Ukrainian government fully shared these priorities.

During the meeting prospects of Ukrainian-Swiss cooperation in the field of renewable energy were discussed. According to Rudolf Rechsteiner, member of the National Council of the Parliament of Switzerland, Ukraine could join the project on the European Internal Electricity Market, because it has “excellent wind resources in the Carpathians and Crimea”.

The sides also discussed the issues concerning expansion of investment cooperation in the field of high technologies, participation prolongation of Ukrainian scientists in the projects of the European Centre for Nuclear Research, creation of a free trade zone Ukraine-Switzerland and simplification of visa regime between the countries. The Swiss side also shared experience of realization and holding Euro-2008, having highlighted the priority of preservation of order.

"Due to contacts between the authorities and NGOs, we are able to lead the Ukrainian-Swiss cooperation at a brand new level. Today, we have spoken about various issues and now we are going to find solutions all together", - summed up Christa Markwalder Ber, President of the Commission for the foreign policy at the National Council of the Swiss Parliament and member of the Board of trustees of Green Cross Switzerland.
