Assistance and Cooperation of Green Cross Family
Green Cross Ukraine with the assistance of Green Cross Switzerland in effective cooperation with Zhytomyr Regional Children's Hospital has been implementing within SOCMED Program Health for the Future and Caries Prevention projects in Zhytomyr region for already seven years. The sponsor’s support and understanding of the problems that occur in providing qualitative medical assistance to the children and adults who live in the areas affected by the Chernobyl catastrophe, enables the improvement of health and daily life of many families
One of the most effective forms of activity is the conduction of mobile visits of medical team to the remote affected areas, in order to provide children with the specialized consultative medical care. During the visits ultrasound, ECG test is carried out, patients are selected for hospital treatment, group for dispensary treatment are formed, and individual treatment planning is developed for each child. Together with local health workers activities are performed in crisis families, parents and patients are give consultations and recommendations. When necessary medical personnel conduct surgical operations for children on the basis of Zhytomyr Regional Children's Hospital.
Thus, over the past five years in the framework of two projects 108 visits were made which allowed examination of more than 15000 patients on the spot, conduction of 1500 ultrasound surveys, about 3200 talks, lectures and classes; 276 patients got surgery operations, and 2128 patients were sent to undergo hospital treatment in the hospital.
Unfortunately, recently the conduction of mobile visits has been significantly complicated as for ten years of active work technical state of GCU mobile team minibus deteriorated. The vehicle run out its operational resources (its operational kilometers is now 360 000 km of the allowed resource 300 000 km). There are frequent faults and damages in electrical power system, gas leading system, gearbox, heating and ventilation system, etc.
We are very grateful to our partners Green Cross Switzerland and Green Cross Korea that they are doing their best to assist in solving this problem. To continue cooperation with Zhytomyr Regional Children's Hospital and further realization of Green Cross projects in the region we are looking for sponsors to purchase a new minibus to conduct the visits to the remote area affected by the Chernobyl accident.
