Green Cross energy saving action
February 14 Green Cross Ukraine (GCU) and the National Ecology and Nature Center (NENC) joined the «M'ILLUMINO DI MENO» energysavingcampaign initiated by Green Cross Italy together with the Italian public radio network CaterpillarRAI. This broad campaign is aimedat encouraging people around the world to turn off their electric devices for 60 minutes and motivating people to reduce energy consumption and boost environmental protection.
Green Cross Ukraine (GCU) invited teachers and students of the school No. 4 from the locality called Vyshneve of Kiev region to participate in the event. This event was made possible thanks to Director of the National Ecology and Nature Center, doctor of pedagogical sciences Vladimir V. Verbitsky. Chairman of the Board, Executive Director of GCU Yuriy S. Sapiga and Green Cross Ukraine Team as well as teachers and technicians of the National Ecology and Nature Center took the floor and addressed the audience at the time of the meeting. The purpose of the event was to draw attention of younger generation and the public toward the natural resourcemanagement and renewable energy. The children were informed about the ways of energy saving and existing renewable energy sources. It is important to conserve energy, which will reduce emissions. In addition, energy saving iscost-effective. Together with children Green Cross Ukraine discussed the simplest and basic energy saving measures that are available to everyone and can be applied in everyday life. The participants visited the clubs and museums, which are located at the base of the NENC.
The children were active and enthusiastic. They expressed a great interest in the topic of energy saving and hope for future meetings at the National Ecology and Nature Center of Ukraine.
