Green Cross helped one more family...
The large family of Valentina Grinik lives in Zhytomyr oblast’, the third Chernobyl zone, in radioactively contaminated territory of Ovrutsk region in Ignatpil village. Mother brings up three little children alone and she worries much about their health as children are often ill, they have problems with thyroid glands, lungs and bronchi, cardiovascular system, complain of rheumatism.
Because of lack of money they not always can get appropriate medical care. The family lives low, mother does not work. They have only some house animals and a vegetable garden. Valentina shared her pain and alarm with the Green Cross Ukraine team when we came to see her. She quietly told us her story and her was trembled with sadness and despair. In the framework of international program Socmed and under activities of projects Mother and Child club and Social Cooperatives the family received social assistance from Green Cross - 10 rabbits for free to develop their own small farm. This assistance was very necessary and significant for the family as it is very difficult for a single mother to maintain the family because she usually does not get any support.What is more, Valentina has dreamed about new fridge for a long time. It develops that they used to live without it.
People in Switzerland saw the shooting of film about the Grinik family, by Mario Nottaris. And they couldn’t but stay aside. They felt sympathy for the poor family and decided to help them. These good people addressed to Green Cross Switzerland and gave money for the family could buy new fridge. At the place, Chairman of the Board Executive Director of Green Cross Ukraine Yuriy Sapiga and GCU team dealt with this issue. Finally, happy family can estimate all benefits of fresh products that are kept safely in the DNEPR fridge.
The Griniks are very thankful for the help. Children were the most happiest. And we were pleased to see their happy sincere smiles.
