On the way to provide safe drinking water and sanitation

The Smart Water for Green Schools project was launched in the village of Nevgody, Ovruch district, Zhytomyr region in January 2013 under the coordination of Green Cross International (GCI). The project activity is aimed at ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation for the population of Nevgody, and at increasing the environmental awareness of the local community.
The project includes reconstruction of treatment water facilities in the village of Nevgody and supply of households with a rehabilitated water network. In addition, it is planned to construct a room in the school of Nevgody to install eco-toilets conduct outreach and educational activities there.
The rural community and the Head of Nevgody village council of the village Anatoliy V. Demydchuk are actively involved in the project, Ovruch State District Administration and the local sanitary-epidemiological station promotes the project implementation. The responsible persons found contractors to perform the work, signed service agreements, calculated estimate documentation and obtained construction and technical documentation.
In March due to force majeure (weather conditions) it was difficult to start operation of previously planned activities on time. Work crews were forced to wait until the spring flood vanished in order to proceed with the repair work. In late April first activity was executed in this direction. Replacement of filter elements in the first tank of sewage treatment facilities was done. At the moment, the contractors continue to conduct the work.
Construction and technical documentation was obtained with regard to the project on installation of environmental toilets in rural schools. The site was selected, where construction works will be carried out. This site is crossed by the heat pipeline, which ensures heating of the school. In this regard, there was a need to conduct additional work to relocate the heating pipeline. At present stage the work is being carried out to relocate the heat pipeline, thus it will enable to lay the foundation for the construction of a room and further installation ecological toilets.
Thanks to the implementation of this project residents of Nevgody will be able to get access to safe-drinking water, improve their health, increase environmental awareness, receive necessary medical consultations, become informed about water and sanitation issues and share their experience and obtained knowledge with others..
We invite all interested entities to cooperate in our joint project! Due to new possibilities and strengthening of partnership we will be able to develop programs and projects aimed at providing assistance to people.
