SOCMED 2021 - to improve well-being and promote health

Green Cross Ukraine pursues the implementation of the SOCMED International Program in Ukraine. The coordination and financial support of the Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH) is very important for the continuation of the program and projects. Health improvement of children and mothers, provision of effective and timely medical care, training, environmental education, capacity building of local communities in the regions affected by the Chernobyl accident, through the dissemination of knowledge and experience in organic farming, food safety, solution of sanitary and water issues, the use of alternative energy sources remains relevant in the work of the organization.

Close cooperation continues with local partners, regional and district administrations, educational institutions, schools, hospitals, social centers. Activities for children, youth, families are jointly held, educational work and propaganda are carried out, volunteer work is supported.

This year we managed to successfully carry out a summer health campaign, which lasted from June 1 to August 20. A lot of work has been done by the entire Green Cross team, a number of negotiations have been held, long-term agreements have been reached and a cooperation agreement has been signed. The project for the improvement of children was carried out together with partners and thanks to the cooperation and support of the National Ecology and Nature Center in ecologically clean Transcarpathia, Shayan, which is known for its unique medical base. The unique Shayan field is located on the territory of the Vigorlat volcanic formation of the Gutinsky ridge. Shayan is famous for its valuable mineral springs of different ion-salt composition and temperature. Experts say that due to the lithological composition of rocks and geological conditions, the only such in Ukraine, Shayan water heals diseases of almost all internal organs of a person. 12 families and 117 children took part in the Green Cross therapy camps. A complex of rehabilitation measures was carried out. Every day mothers and children received healing Shayan mineral water, various medicinal teas. Fresh air, tasty and healthy food, medical procedures: massages, hydrogen sulphide baths, a swimming pool produced a positive healing effect and contributed to the overall strengthening of the body. As a leisure, excursions around Transcarpathia were organized, mainly to Solotvino and Tyachiv, Black Mountain and a snail farm, a cheese dairy and a mini-zoo. Cheerful celebration of Ivan Kupala, a visit to the Opryshkov hut left an unforgettable impression. Opera singers' performances and musical accompaniment with folk instruments adorned the leisure of not only mothers, but also their children. We are grateful to our friends who gladly agreed to come and perform in front of mothers and children.

“For us, this is not the first experience of organizing health improvement for families with children. We are happy that we were able to make the kids and mothers happy for a while. It was nice to see the happy, smiling faces and this is the biggest reward. In general, the experience is positive and encouraging. I think we will improve, develop projects of this format and prepare for a new health season - shared his impressions Chairman of the Board of Green Cross Ukraine Yuriy Sapiga. There are also plans to build a health rehabilitation center for families and children, for widows and soldiers who require rehabilitation.

We would like to thank and express our gratitude to the regional coordinators of the Green Cross Ukraine, partners from the regions, the leadership of the National Ecology and Nature Center for cooperation and support of the projects, as well as all the involved medical staff, teachers, instructors and volunteers who did everything possible to conduct a high-quality therapy camps.

The development of the SOCMED medical module remains important. The activity is carried out within the framework of the project "Health for the Future" on the basis of the Zhytomyr Regional Children's Clinical Hospital and the possibility of a mobile medical team working in the regions, as well as providing medical advice and psychological assistance within the Family Clubs. In the Health for the Future project, one of the important components is pediatric surgery. It is an integral part of pediatrics, and sometimes highly specialized pediatric problems can only be resolved surgically. A recent striking example of cooperation between Oncohematology and Surgical Department # 2 was the treatment of children with severe idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura. This disease is characterized by heavy bleeding, so children suffer from chronic anemia and has to constantly take medications. This condition is caused by excessive uncontrolled destruction of platelets in the spleen. Removing the spleen is often the only treatment option. Laparoscopic removal is recognized as the best modern way of carrying out such an operation, since it is low-traumatic and cosmetic, and reduces the length of hospital stay. Surgeons performed such a surgical intervention. The operating team: surgeon Vitaly Zaremba, assistants Dmitry Shevchuk and intern Alexander Shcherbak, anesthesiologist Konstantin Petrenko, operating nurse Diana Latsyatsya.

We are confident that thanks to our partners from the Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH) and Ukraine, our joint cooperation and support, we will be able to continue helping needy families in Ukraine. Mothers and children who received help and support from GREEN CROSS express their gratitude and hope that in the coming years the SOCMED program in Ukraine will pay attention not only to their families, but also to families who this year could not access such help and have a good recuperation.

"We and our children are very happy and grateful to everyone who organized such a camp for us which brought unforgettable impressions and days of happiness that we could not even dream of. May there always be such good people who think and help our children and us. ”

On behalf of all families from Ukraine, we are sincerely grateful to the GCCH Team and management for your solidarity and significant assistance.
