SOCMED Program. Eco Summer Therapy Camp for Children 2012
Thanks to effective collaboration of Green Cross Ukraine with foreign partners, financial support of Green Cross Switzerland within SOCMED Program Eco summer therapy camp was conducted for children living in ecologically unfavourable conditions in the regions contaminated after the Chernobyl accident.
Eighty children of Zhytomyr region, Zhytomyr city, Bila Tserkva, Slavutych, and Gorlovka (Donetsk region) participated in the camp, that this year was held from August 5 to August 26, 2012 in natural and environmentally clean area, a part of Transcarpathian on the bases of Polonyna Health and Recreation Complex and “Plonyna - Integrated homebuilding factory – 3” resort, Lumshory village. By tradition GCU Chairman of the Board, Executive director Yuriy Sapiga opened the Camp expressing gratitude to Director of health and recreation complex - Magdalyna Hlushenia and Director of “Polonyna DBK – 3” health resort - Leonid Rafalskiy.
Picturesque place located among hornbeam and coniferous forests, spring water of the river Turytsa, fresh mountain air, beautiful scenery, properly-organized meals, cultural and entertaining activities contributed to the rehabilitation and rest of children.
Participants of the camp had the possibility to be carefully examined and underwent complete course of treatment in accordance to their diagnoses. Considering morbidity patterns of the children who came to be treated, rehabilitation therapeutic programs were developed and children underwent a complex treatment and rehabilitation with the use of natural healing factors of Polonyna Health and Recreation Complex, preformed physical factors and physical and therapeutical methods. Constant medical screening and manipulation treatment for children in the camp were carried out by the doctors of State Reabilitatsia scientific and practical medical center of Ministry of Health of Ukraine. To make children feel comfortable and healthy the following methods of treatment were used: hydropathical procedures, solar therapy, mineral water drinking, physiotherapeutic procedures, climatotherapeutics, massage therapy, physical training and gymnastics.
The staying of children in the camp was interesting and busy with educational and entertaining cultural activities. Walking tours to the mountains, side trips, informative excursions to Uzhhorod and Mukachevo under the guidance of Alexander Feikaand and every evening entertaining program under the leadership of Ivanna Chernaya and senior group leader Kateryna Sereda were organized for them. Thanks to a leadership potential of manager of the camp Elena Ivanova, group leaders O.P. Podyachev, L.I. Shturmak, N.P. Kyrychenko, A.V. Sdobnova and volunteers Lesia Shapovalova, Andriana Polishchuk and Yulia Voloshchak perfectly conducted their work.
At the end of the camp children had additional medical examination the results of which showed improvement of the psycho emotional state and general state of health of the participants.
It was not easy for children to say good-bye to the camp where there was warm friendly atmosphere, the eye was delighted with mountain scenes, it was interesting, funny and they got a lot of positive emotions, raised ecological awareness and found made many new friends.
