Green Cross Ukraine charitable organization with the support of Green Cross Switzerland announces the beginning of the children's drawing contest on environmental issues called "Children forCleanerFuture."
Green Cross Ukraine (GCU) continues to implement its activities, providing assistance to the most vulnerable strata of population. Since the beginning of 2012, business visits were held to the regions, the organization signed cooperation agreement with the National Ecology and Nature Center of Ukraine. Through the assistance of the partners from Switzerland it continues to realize the following projects within International Program SOCMED: Eco Summer Therapy Camp, International Eco Camp, Caries Prevention, Health for the Future, GCU Mother and Child Clubs, Social Cooperatives, Training for Trainers. School of Volunteer, Education, Information and Publication.
During one of visits the mobile medical team of GCU Center «Health for the Future» worked in the village Kamenka in Olevsk district, Zhytomyr region. The village is situated on the banks of the river Ubort 12 km from the district center of Olevsk. Population is more than 1,500 people, there are about 500 households. It was one of those cases when doctors received satisfaction from work: well-groomed children and families. Every week a pediatrician from Olevsk visits families who live here. Children have the opportunity to attend local school, as well as dance hobby group and section of wrestling.
Unfortunately, positive impressions vanished when after examination of one child the doctors were deeply concerned.
Green Cross Ukraine charitable organisation within SOCMED program conducts its activities in Zhytomyr, Slavutych, Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky, Bila Tserkva and Donetsk region. Nadezhda Opaluk (deputy chairman of Gorlovka Ecological Commission, Donetsk region) is the head of GCU Donetsk department.
GCU Mother and Child Club works on the basis of GCU charitable organisation in Gorlovka. Nadezhda Opaluk and her team work diligently to help families who need support, conduct different useful actions and productively cooperate with young reporters of the local Skrepka children's newspaper.
Ecological problems are the most urgent nowadays. There are many reasons and the main task is to find solutions, prevent consequences and get positive results.
On November 10, 2011 Green Cross Switzerland and Blacksmith Institute, USA, that is dedicated to solving life-threatening pollution issues in the developing world, issued the report on the Top Ten Worst Pollution Problems Worldwide 2011 and also study their influence and impacts.
On September 28, 2011 the Swiss Upper House of Parliament voted for government’s decision gradually move country away from its reliance on nuclear energy, take out of service all nuclear power plants and transit to alternative energy sources. Green Cross organization completely supports the Swiss Parliament decision and hopes that other countries will take and develop this race, too.
September 25, 2011 Honorary Board Member and the eminent environmentalist, Wangari Maathai passed away. She fought for democracy in Kenya, combining the work in the sphere of environmental protection and politics. Owing to her activity desertification of African forests was stopped. She was an initiator and the main inspirer of the founded in 1977 Green Belt Movement that later was known as Maathai Green Movement.
In March 2004 she received prestigious international ecology Sophie Prize for “a long-term fearless fight for environment, human rights and social justice, human dignity and democracy”.
September 1, 2011 Green Cross Ukraine under the auspicies of GCU coordinator in Bila Tserkva Ivanova Elena Heorgivna organized and realized a meeting with children in Bila Tserkva who participated in the Swiss Youth Camp. The meeting was held in the framework of GCU Mother and Child Club on the base of the Central children library.
Green Cross Ukraine representatives, participants of the Swiss Youth Camp as well as their parents, peers, other schoolchildren, members of GCU Mother and ChildClub, coordinator of Bila Tserkva, psychologist and social workers took part in this meeting.
With the beginning of new school year representatives of Green Cross Ukraine that was a partner and promoter of the project Meeting the world: Swiss Youth Camp made a planed visit to the regions and held meetings with children on site to give additional examination of psychological and physical state of these children as well as to give them a possibility to share impressions and ideas with their peers and other interested people.
