1025th Anniversary of Baptism of Rus
The celebrations of the 1025th anniversary of Baptism of Rus took place in Kyiv on July 26-28.
Cooperation with Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH)
Thanks to the financial support from Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH), Rotary Club, the assistance of D?bendorf (Switzerland), and contribution of Winner Automotive in Ukraine, in the person of Alexander Smirnov and Wіnner Imports Ukraine, represented by the CEO Bogdan Kulchytsky, new vehicle was purchased in Kiev on April 19, 2013, enabling to extend and develop the work within the framework of the International SOCMED program in Ukraine.
Contest for children from Nevgody
May 20 in the village school of Nevgody, Ovruch region in Zhytomyr region the competition was held under the terms of which children themselves decorated pottery items provided by our partners – the school-studio of pottery "TIME OF CERAMICS" on behalf of Sergey and Tatiana Mantulin who initiated the event.
Necessary Help from Green Cross to the Family of Oksana Zhurba
June 7, 2013 Oksana Zhurba and happy to receive a new washing machine from Green Cross, the mother was dreaming of it for the past 5 years. This was possible thanks to our partners - Green Cross Switzerland (GCCH). Oksana was very glad and grateful for such a generous gift, because the family could not afford to purchase a washing machine before. "I am very happy. Many thanks to Maria Vitagliano and Green Cross for helping us "- says Oksana Zhurba with tears in her eyes and happy smile on her face. Now she will be able to spend more time with her children and cope with her home duties faster.
Project Activity under Smart Water for Green Schools
May 24, 2013 in the rural school of Nevgody in Ovruch district, Zhytomyr region there was the training for the local population on the topic “Treatment of households’ waste-water”. That day the doctors from mobile medical team of Zhytomyr Regional Children’s Hospital performed examination of children as part of the Smart Water for Green Schools project (SWGS) of Green Cross International (GCI). The activity was done with financial support from the International Forum Committee (IFC) and the World Water Council (WWC).
On the way to provide safe drinking water and sanitation
The Smart Water for Green Schools project was launched in the village of Nevgody, Ovruch district, Zhytomyr region in January 2013 under the coordination of Green Cross International (GCI). The project activity is aimed at ensuring access to safe drinking water and sanitation for the population of Nevgody, and at increasing the environmental awareness of the local community.
The project includes reconstruction of treatment water facilities in the village of Nevgody and supply of households with a rehabilitated water network. In addition, it is planned to construct a room in the school of Nevgody to install eco-toilets conduct outreach and educational activities there.
International SOCMED Program
From 23 to 30 April 2013, Maria Vitagliano, International Program Director of Social and Medical care made her field trip to Ukraine.
During her stay, in association with GCU Team she visited Slavutych, where she participated in commemoration ceremony devoted to the 27th anniversary of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Maria Vitagliano together with Maksym Tymoshenko, GCU President and Yuriy Sapiga, GCU Executive Director, as well as GCU Team laid flowers at the memorial to the Heroes of Chernobyl.
Cooperation, Development and Achievements of Green Cross Ukraine
The Ukrainian Technological Academy that unites research workers, engineers, economists from different branches of science, technology, industry and education made a resolution as of 08.04.2013, Protocol No. 2 and elected Maksym Olegovych Tymoshenko a full member of the Academy in the department "ECOLOGY" with the title of ACADEMICIAN.
Maksym Tymoshenko emphasized that "The most important issue in the XXI century is ecology and global environmental issues that should be resolved not alone, but all together on a professional level. The conflict between nature and humanity reached critical scales that could disrupt life on the planet.
Currently we are in the ecological crisis. We need concrete actions and believe that through cooperation and common interests to develop relationships and partnerships between Ukrainian Technological Academy and Green Cross in Ukraine and other world countries we could create a new system of relations to overcome environmental hazards both in Ukraine and generally in the world. We can overcome global problems related to the environment only together with scientists and colleagues from abroad".
Charity Initiative of ISAIA
On the eve of Christmas, Oleg Ryzhov, head of the Kyiv Boutique ISAIA, addressed to Green Cross Ukraine with charity initiative and proposed in the period from December 13, 2012 to March 31, 2013 to allocate some part of funds got from the sale of handmade suits ISAIA for the development of International SOCMED Program (Program Director is Maria Vitagliano, GCCH) aimed at the providing assistance to children.
The most famous representatives of cultural and political elite participated in the gala night devoted to this good goal. Ministers, members of the government and deputies, businessmen and producers - all our clients supported and welcomed this infrequent today initiative by their presence!
Educational activity on water and sanitation issues within the Smart Water for Green Schools project in Nevgody village
Within the new GCI Smart Water for Green Schools project (SWGS) at the financial assistance of International Forum Committee (IFC) and World Water Council (WWC) on 15 and 19 February, 2013 the trainings on the topics “Integrated approach on access to water, sanitation and conservation of watersheds and water resources" and “Water, sanitation and hygienic practices” were held for children and the adult population of Nevgody on the base of National Ecology and Nature Center (NENC) and in Nevgody village, Ovruch region, Zhytomyr oblast.
